About Dallas, United States

Dallas is not only one of the largest cities in Texas, it's among the largest in the United States - and that's saying something. It's an enormous economic centre for the state, home to big companies in the technology, banking, and healthcare sectors, but there are also many reasons for visitors to find the city appealing. This is especially true if you are the kind of person who likes sports or shopping - or both.

While there are hotels spread throughout the Dallas-Forth Worth metro area, many are more geared toward business travellers than tourists - the location of any Dallas hotels you may consider for your stay should be paramount in your decision-making. This is also due to Dallas' less-than-ideal public transportation system. To be fair, the buses and light rail are perfectly fine if you're commuting from home to work, but the lines don't always serve the museums, shops, amusement parks, etc. that tourists wish to visit. Depending on what's on the itinerary, it may be best to rent a car.

Regardless of the season, Dallas is a city that rallies around its sports teams, whether it's basketball, football, baseball, or any number of other sports. Sometimes getting tickets to a game can be difficult, but sports fans can share equally in the camaraderie of any of the sports bars around the city that show the games on television.

Dallas is about more than sports, of course - this is also a city that loves to shop. There are more shopping malls in Dallas per capita than anywhere else in the country, so you don't have to look too far to find one (or several). There are high-end shops and designer boutiques as well as more budget-friendly places throughout the city. The Neiman Marcus luxury department store chain began as a single dress shop in Dallas in the early 1900s - and it still does a brisk business downtown to this day.
