About Sunshine Coast, Australia

Queensland is known as the Sunshine State, and you could say the capital of that sunshine is the epitome of that lifestyle; the Sunshine Coast. Consisting broadly of Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Coolum, Maroochydore, Peregrian and Noosa Heads, the region is a blissful coastline with beautiful beaches and charming towns, framed by a lush green hinterland.

Around an hour’s drive north of Brisbane the region begins with Caloundra and a handful of some of the loveliest and quietest beaches you’re likely to come across. Framed by the heritage listed Glass House Mountains there are many ways to enjoy the beauty it has to offer. The entire coastline is enjoyed by surfers from all over as well as family friendly swimming spots. You can explore the area on a cycling or walking tour, by boat or even on a kayak. Don’t miss Steve Irwin’s famed Australia Zoo, the classically Australian Ettamogah Pub or if you’re into aircraft you’ll love the Queensland Air Museum.

Coolum is where the rich and famous come to play golf and relax in privacy. Take some time out to climb Mt Coolum and inhale the stunning views of the coast below. Maroochydore is the perfect family holiday destination with inviting beaches and options for camping, picnicking and barbecues.

Mooloolaba is a real Sunshine Coast resort town with loads of restaurants to suit everyone, marinas, shops and great beaches. It’s also the finishing point for blue-water sailing races from Sydney and Auckland.

Noosa Heads, while a great family destination, also overflows with flavoursome and uber trendy eateries and shopping options. UNESCO has recognised the area as an official Biosphere Reserve as a result of Noosa’s efforts in protecting its natural environment. Hastings Street is probably the town’s most famous consisting of a boulevard overflowing with cafes and shops, inviting you to stroll and take in the consistent holiday atmosphere.

The Coast’s hinterland is a delight to explore and a destination in its own right. The charming towns of Beerwah, Buderim, Eumundi (great markets!), Maleny and more are enough inspiration to hire a car and drive through the stunning Glass House Mountain region stopping at tiny cafés and bed and breakfasts offering fresh scones, mouth-watering fruit and unique art galleries.

Whether you spend a night or a week, Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is everything you’ve been told and more - not only in natural beauty and character, but as the perfect getaway destination for every age.
